Center seeks on-campus program coordinator

Florida State University’s Center for Leadership & Social Change seeks a collaborative, creative, student development educator to lead initiatives at the intersection of diversity, leadership, and service.  The program coordinator will work with colleagues to transform the lives of students, faculty, and staff through leadership education, identity development, and community engagement.

THE POSITION

The program coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of on-campus programs and initiatives.  As a part of a team of three coordinators working collaboratively on a set of programs, this role will incorporate identity, leadership, and community into programming and student development. 

The successful candidate will possess experience in creating and assessing student development programming, specifically in the areas of diversity, leadership, and service learning outcomes.  Candidates should desire to work in a diverse learning environment; lead through change and transition; and create collaborative, transformative partnerships with students, staff, faculty, and community members.  Philosophically and practically such a candidate will look forward to wrestling with the opportunities, challenges, power, and privilege that exist for a center that sits at the intersection of identity, change, and community. 

Reporting to an associate director of the Center for Leadership & Social Change, the program coordinator engages in administrative, programming, and educator roles, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage the design, redesign, and implementation of student development programs focusing on identified student learning outcomes
  • Engage in a programming portfolio that includes programs and workshops that focus on the following areas of emphasis for students and staff:
    • Social Justice Awareness and Education
    • Leadership Development
    • Diversity and Inclusion Efforts
    • Campus-Based Response Programs
  • Supervise a graduate assistant, undergraduate student staff, and interns (graduate and undergraduate)
  • Develop and teach curricular components within the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies  
  • Manage an online request system to confirm and facilitate workshops and trainings for external departments, student organizations and community agencies
  • Participate in active incorporation of literature and assessment feedback to improve program quality and maintain relevancy

TEAM PROGRAMS
Collectively, this on-campus programming team leads efforts to help build student leadership experiences, bridge knowledge of self and others, and deepen the understanding of identity and social justice. Each program coordinator has the opportunity to experience and coordinate programs based on their skills, professional development, and interests. Programs with which all coordinators in our area should be familiar include the ACC Leadership Symposium, commUNITY Dialogue Series, LeaderShape Institute, Leadership LOGIC (Learning in the Outdoors for Group and Individual Change), Leadership Through Intergroup Dialogue, MLK Dinner Dialogue, MLK High School Scholars Program, Multicultural Leadership Summit, Project Conversation Internship Program, Service Leadership Seminar, Social Justice Ally Training, Social Justice Living Learning Community, Welcome Mixer, With Words and Women’s Leadership Institute. QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must possess experience in student development and the work of leadership, diversity, and service education, engagement, and training. Preferred qualifications include experience with social justice education and developing students in the areas of community advocacy and policy. This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, which includes fingerprinting.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree, plus two years of additional experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in leadership and social justice education.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions.
  • Experience mentoring, advising, and supervising students (graduate and undergraduate) and/or student groups in a college or university setting.
  • Knowledge of effective principles and practices of student program planning, development, and evaluation.

SALARY & BENEFITS
The salary for this position is in the mid-30s with a competitive benefits and professional development package.
