The call for institutions to develop leaders has prompted growth in leadership programs and in The Role of Leadership Educators: Transforming Learning, Guthrie and Jenkins (2018) encourage student affairs professionals to develop their capacity as leadership educators. This session provides a space to explore leadership educator identity and interact with other professionals engaged in leadership education.
About the speaker
After a career in student affairs, Dr. Sally Watkins serves as AssociateTeaching Faculty in Leadership Studies at Florida State University. Her role affords ample opportunity to apply what she learned and discovered while working with college student leaders at institutions such as Arizona State University, Scottsdale Community College, the University of Georgia, Cal Poly- San Luis Obispo, and Emory University. At FSU, she teaches a variety of the leadership studies courses and uses the classroom to support student leaders exploring their own leadership identity, capacity, and efficacy. Dr. W regularly teaches core courses in the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies as well as several leadership studies electives.
Dr. Watkins completed her Bachelor of Arts in Communications at the University of Alabama, a Master of Education in Art Education at the University of North Georgia, a Master of Education in Post and Secondary Education at Arizona State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education at Florida State University. A native of Georgia, Sally loves spending time in the Northeast Georgia Mountains.
