We cannot take ourselves out of our leadership approaches. Who we are, the experiences we have had, and the context in which we operate are always at play. As leaders, who we are matters—culture matters too. Come learn more about a culturally relevant approach to leadership. 


About the speaker

Portrait of Lauren WhiteLauren White (she/her) is a 2nd year Ph.D. student studying Higher Education in Anne’s College at Florida State University. Originally from Ohio, she is a two-time alumna of the University of Cincinnati. With experience working in student affairs and academic advising, Lauren has a passion for helping students as they navigate transitioning to college, accessing resources, building community, and obtaining their degrees. She serves as the graduate assistant for the Higher Education department. Academically, her research is focused on retention and student success and the varied experiences of different student populations within Historically White Institutions (HWI). She remains involved in the community through spoken word and poetry, mentorship, and her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is passionate about community, culture, and arts and strives to include these values in her work, research, and teaching. To her, leadership requires more than strength, courage, and assertiveness, but care. Everyone is a leader.
