The Community Ambassador Program seeks qualified and motivated students to serve with community organizations to help bring resources to the local community. Benefits include: recognition on official transcripts, leadership experience, a stipend, and service hours. The deadline to apply is March 9.

Register For Leadership Logic

Leadership LOGIC

Leadership Learning in the Outdoors for Group and Individual Change, better known as Leadership LOGIC, is a two-day overnight leadership development program at no cost to students. LOGIC caters to FSU students who have not participated in a leadership development program before. It is a great way to explore leadership knowledge and skills through individual, small group and large group interactions.

In partnership with Campus Recreation, the overnight program is held at the Rez and makes use of the FSU Challenge Course. Students stay overnight in the cabins on site, all of which are equipped with air conditioning and multiple bathrooms.

LOGIC spring program dates:

LeaderShape: May 7-12, 2018

LeaderShape® at Florida State University hosts a session of the Institute which challenges participants to lead with integrity while working toward a vision grounded in their deepest values. Participants explore not only what they want to do, but also who they want to be. During the week, participants will have an opportunity to meet and work with more than 130 students from diverse backgrounds, as well as create a personal vision—an individual commitment to creating a positive change in the world.

The 2018 application is due by Feb. 25 at 11:59 p.m.

Social Justice Ally Training

Social Justice Ally Training

The mission of the Social Justice Ally Training program is to educate members of the Florida State community about issues related to social justice in order to develop allies who will promote an equitable and inclusive environment and serve as social change agents in a diverse and global society.

Individuals who register must be able to attend both days of a Social Justice Ally Training session. Registration is required for all training. In order to provide the highest quality training, registration is limited to 15 people.

Last session will be held:

  • Feb. 27, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Diversity and Inclusion Certificate

The certificate creates an opportunity for faculty and staff to explore strategic areas around diversity and to learn more about the ways in which they can assist in creating a welcoming and inclusive campus for all. Upon completing all 6 classes and the required Theory to Action Project, submit the completion form to training@fsu.edu. By completing all the courses within the series, a participant can earn a Diversity & Inclusion Certificate of Completion.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Community Outreach Program gives students the opportunity to get involved in community service on a regular basis, with projects to choose from almost daily. Projects are student-led and are offered at a variety of nonprofit agencies.  Students can sign up for projects as early as one week in advance and up to the day of the project. Space is limited so signing up early is strongly encouraged. Transportation is provided for all projects.

Volunteer with Food Recovery Network

Ever wonder where surplus food on campus goes at the end of the day? The Food Recovery Network at FSU recovers it and donates it to individuals experiencing food insecurity! Help keep food from going in the landfill and support our community. Sign up for a recovery here or email gam14@my.fsu.edu to learn more. Meetings are also held every other Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Mendenhall A, Room 101. The next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 27.

 

Ride to the Frenchtown Farmers Market

Campus to Market Group Ride | Saturday, Feb. 24th 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Join community members and other FSU cyclists on a 1-mile trip to the Frenchtown Farmers Market. The market features fresh produce, meats, crafts, and other specialty items along with a community garden. This is a great opportunity for a fun activity on a Saturday morning whilst supporting local businesses and eating healthy.

Volunteer with February Fresh Market

Seminole Dining will be hosting a February Fresh Market on Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. as part of the Fresh Market series that will be held each month on the Union Green. Volunteers are needed to get people interested and guide people towards the market, help people check out, conduct surveys, and pass out flyers. Volunteer shifts are one hour long, although volunteers may work multiple shifts.  The Market will consist of fresh fruits and veggies and seasonally available local produce. There will be a Chef Demo with samples of a fresh local item, a fruit cutting station, a Social Media contest for discounts, and a bring your own bag discount.

FSU Green Dot Bystander Trainings empower students to discover ways to be active bystanders and create a community that does not tolerate violence. Join us for a fun and interactive day of learning how we can be reactive and proactive in ending power based personal violence in our community. Lunch and other prizes will be provided.

Mission San Luis seeks volunteers for special event

Mission San Luis is a non-profit interpretive museum located at the site of the the western Apalachee Native American and Spanish colonial capital of Florida from 1656 to 1704. With a goal to inspire a love for nature, history, and other cultures in visitors, the museum brings the 17th century to life through costumed interpreters, reconstructed buildings, museum exhibits and archaeological demonstrations.

On Saturday March 10, Mission San Luis will be host Spanish Colonial Adventure Day. This event will mirror the Winter Solstice Native American celebration, but with an emphasis on the preparations for the 1686 exploratory expedition to Pensacola Bay. The museum seeks of volunteers to help achieve the level of effectiveness and efficiency it strives for in all special events. The shift choices are 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., and 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Volunteer with WFSU

WFSU seeks student volunteers to man phones for the WFSU-FM Spring Membership Drive on March 23-30. WFSU radio has been a local fixture for over 50 years. WFSU Public Media’s radio stations include two news and information-based stations and one 24-hours classical music station. The spring pledge drive provides much needed revenue to keep these stations and our programs on the air. Volunteers will receive a brief tutorial of our phone and computer systems before processing over-the-phone pledges. Staff will be present to answer any questions volunteers may run across. DORI SAVES LIVES: day at the capitol

Day at the capitol: February 28, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Day at the Capitol - The Dori Saves Lives Foundation and the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation work together at the Day at the Capitol with law enforcement, government and state officials, and victims' families to educate and increase awareness of road safety. Teens from all over Florida have the opportunity to attend a safe teen driving summit where they will gain knowledge and develop skills to minimize the driving behaviors that cause them significant risk. The event is concluded with a press conference on the steps of the Capitol. Government and state officials, victims' families, and advocates for roadway safety address the public with issues, concerns, and solutions. Media outlets from all over Florida will be in attendance covering this crucial safety summit.

 

Volunteers will be attending and promoting roadway safety from 11-12:30, meeting at Dori Saves Lives at 11. They will also have the option to tour the Capitol after the event's conclusion, receive lunch and service hours.

 

 

DOC SEEK VOLUNTEERS FOR NEW MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

The Florida Department of Corrections seeks volunteers to conduct group activities in new specialized outpatient mental health units at Wakulla Correctional Institution. It’s a unique program that will provide augmented treatment for patients who have struggled to adjust in the general prison environment due to issues related to their mental illness.  Part of this augmented treatment will be providing an array of out-of-cell activities to improve socialization and engagement. We have been working to secure staff and volunteers for many of the activities listed below and some listed activities are just ideas for potential groups. The groups do not need to be limited to these alone. If someone has an interest or expertise in another area, please do not hesitate to inquire.

Planned group activities include:

  • Music Therapy, including classes in guitar, ukulele, music appreciation, band, and choral club
  • Art Therapy

Volunteers will be working closely with security and our mental health team to provide a better treatment environment for some of our most vulnerable patients. We want to make improvements to meet their specific needs and we need some help to do it.

American Cancer Society Seeks Event/Office Volunteers

The American Cancer Society seeks volunteer office and event support to provide clerical and reception support for office. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, performing filing as requested, making address/file labels, stuffing envelopes, sorting mail, making copies, and answering phones. Event prep work for community events includes stuffing bags, counting inventory, and assembling event kits.
