Service Agencies & RSOs

All service hours are required to be completed with an approved service agency in order to qualify for the ServScript Program Students have the option to also report that hours were conducted through a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) if they wish.

Agencies: When completing service, consider who is the beneficiary of the activity you are performing. That is usually who you will list as the agency. This is often non-profit, community groups, or foundations. For example:

  • Following a hurricane or natural disaster, you volunteer to hand out water and food items at a relief station with your student organization, Supportive Students Club. The relief station is likely coordinated by the American Red Cross or FEMA. Either of these could be listed as your agency. Supportive Students Club can be listed as your RSO if you choose. Even though you are helping the people of a specific city/area, the city itself if not the agency. Your service supervisor should be your point of contact at the relief station when you signed in for your shift, or your RSO advisor for Supportive Students Club.
  • You volunteer for the philanthropy FSU Dance Marathon as a dancer. You are helping to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network, which is the agency. FSU Dance Marathon is the RSO. You should list the full-time or graduate student advisor for the RSO through which you participated in Dance Marathon. You should not list another student as the supervisor of your hours.
  • You are conducting research with a faculty member at FSU. The research project is funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and hosted by the FSU College of Medicine. You may list EITHER JDRF or the College of Medicine as your agency. Your service supervisor should be your Primary Investigator or lab director.
